China’s famous Two Sessions opened again this year on March 5, 2025 to run for three days until March 8, 2025. The whole world has learned to watch and listen to the sessions starting with the Government Work Report that details the achievement and accomplishments of the government’s Five-Year Plan in the year just past, the adjusted goals and policies as new realities arise.
The spectacular success of the People’s Republic of China since its founding in 1949 can definitely be attributed to the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and its dedication to the advancement of the people and nation’s welfare using scientific socialism with Chinese characteristics. Between 1949 and today its has risen from a backward feudal society, fought off U.S. encroachment in Korea, to become the largest and technologically most advanced economy in the world today.
China and the CPC has introduced to the modern world that understanding of what true democracy is, starting with the system that is first and foremost guided by a humanist ideology of sharing among the people economic and political power melding selection and election of dedicated servants to the nation, disciplined by ideological understanding and attuned to scientific and technological innovation.
The multinational American PR-Marketing consultancy Edelman Trust Barometer survey of 28 countries of their people’s trust in their government shows 85% of Chinese people trust their government compared to the U.S. where only 40% of Americans say their trust their government. Filipinos should learn from China, and other countries of similar systems such as Singapore and Vietnam, that there is a better system than the free-wheeling electoral system that the U.S. politics represent.
The free-wheeling electoral system that American represents (that the Philippines has copied the worse parts) has evolved over the past 50 years to an oligarchy as former US president Biden said in his farewell speech last January 28, 2025 – a point American Nobel Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz also makes. President Trump is making America even more oligarchic, and aims to do the same to the world as seen in his Blackrock takeover of Panama ports.
The Philippines’ electoral system has become its cancer, killing the entire body polity slowly, surely and then suddenly. The oligarchy in the Philippines, connected to the U.S. oligarchy, assumed all power in the 1986 Yellow EDSA color revolution, and de-industrialized and “de-agriculturized” (becoming food -import dependent), while vital public utilities have become blood sucking privatized operations (they want to privatize even EDSA).
While Trump is privatizing America further legislating tax cuts for the rich whele cutting social and medical care for the poor, China continues to enrich its population and spread the wealth to the developing world improving public infrastructure of less advanced nations to enable them to be rich nations over time engaging with China’s market. China today, in the present Two Sessions, announces its aim to boost domestic consumers to boost its economy.
While Trump is threatening and actually slamming neighboring nations and distant countries with indiscriminate tariffs while promising to grab other countries lands and minerals to save the U.S. oligarchy, China is continuing to open its economy to the rest of the world to partake of China growing wealth and benefit from its advancing technology and product innovations making lives better in every nook and corner of the world. ###
