Ambassador MaryKay Charlatan’s Hypocri-Sea

Just like the state she represents,  U.S. Ambassador MaryKay Carlson is a charlatan, the more appropriate surname for them both. Ambassador Charlatan is the fake envoy of a fake republic, the fake democratic state that postures as global superpower and policeman of the world. As described by American author William Blum in the book by the same name, the United States of America is the real “Rogue State” , what Mao Tse Tung calls the “paper tiger.”

Blum has written six books all exposing the criminality of the U.S. state and foreign policy. Hs first was “The CIA: A Forgotten History,” followed by ”killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II.” His third and most popular is “Rogue State: A Guide to the World’s Only Superpower.” His sixth book, and last to date is “America’s Deadliest Export: Democracy – The Truth About US Foreign Policy and Everything Else.” According to Blume, where there is real democracy, America subverts it.

Here’s a William Blum quote, “… to the American power elite, one of the longest lasting and most essential foreign policy goals has been preventing the rise of any society that might serve as a good example of an alternative to the capitalist model. This was the essence of the Cold War. Cuba and Chile were two examples of several such societies in the socialist camp which the United States did its best to crush.” (from “America’s Deadliest Export: Democracy, The Truth about US Foreign Policy and Everything Else”)

The above quote is relevant to the primordial crisis the Philippines is facing today – the crisis of a fledgling democracy subverted by the US-BBM “secret deal” in 2023 that returned the Philippines to a “vassal state” of the U.S. and its deployment as a geopolitical “siege machine”, modern-day battering ram to prevent China, Asia and the Global Majority in their continuing rise and entry into the new era of peace and prosperity of the imminent multipolar future.

For nineteen months now, the U.S. has been using the unholy alliance of a compliant BBM government with its national security establishment and its ships, the choreographed chorus of the mainstream media chorus, and U.S. and Western-funded civil society groups to provoke clashes with Chinese maritime security and defense forces. This is to sensationalize and demonize China in Western and Philippine media to arouse Filipino identity passions. Standing firm against this unholy alliance is the immovable Great Wall of ships of China.

The U.S. and its Filipino proxies, who have been carefully cultivated, nurtured and funded over a century and enhanced in the recent decades, have tried all the tricks. They have threatened the escort of Philippines ships by U.S. Coast Guard escorts, and used civilian ships and fishing boats to break the blockades. These ineffectual tactics of the  so-called U.S. strategy of “assertive transparency” to “exact reputational cost on China” have not gained any success as ASEAN and the Global Majority continue to snub the G-7 and U.S. proxies’ appeal for support.

Instead, embarrassment has been heaped on U.S. and Filipino maritime proxies facing professional Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) containment of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Navy provocations despite being backed up by CNN, BBC and local news cameras). The U.S.-promised escort ships for the PCG never showed up, a Filipino sailor lost a thumb by accident, and the semi-grounded BRP Teresa Magbanua was forced to leave due to thirst and near-starvation. All that are left are noisy protestations from the U.S. ambassador and her proxies.

Ambassador MaryKay Charlatan just tried to put up a brave front, brandishing sarcasm at China’s historical claim to what has been called for centuries as the China Sea, saying that “the nine-dash line (or now ten-dash line), that China has drawn is a cartoon”…” She then reiterated the routine pronouncements of the U.S. state department that the U.S. “stands with its ally the Philippines in terms of upholding international law.

The U.S. has not even ratified the UNCLOS nor the Arbitration Award. As per the Award,  says:  Para. 272 – “… the Tribunal emphasizes that nothing in this Award should be understood to comment in any way on China’s historic claim to the islands of the South China Sea.”

China’s historic claims are founded on Customary International Law, which were established in the course of the past millennium that show evidence of exploration and exploitation of the many islands and groups of islands in the South China Sea. These claims are also supported by the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Proclamation, long-standing agreements that are widely-supported by the community of nations. While it is not my intention to engage in legal argumentation in this short piece, re-statements of these basics are considered necessary.

There is nothing exclusive in the Philippines’ EEZ claim as four other countries claim the same or may even have superior territorial claims. And lest we forget, the Philippine claim of historic rights to Sabah was considered voided because the U.S. instructed the Philippines to delete the Constitutional  provision on Sabah in the 1987 Constitution..

The continued refusal  of the U.S. to ratify UNCLOS is simply “Hypocri-sea..”, which has sparked widespread questions about U.S. sincerity in advocating international law. U.S. cohorts admit that it continues to refuse to ratify the UNCLOS as “… it would undermine U.S. sovereignty” and “ … all kinds of meritless environmental lawsuits would be brought against us…” Other U.S. voices claim it undermines “Freedom of Navigation Operations” (also known as, gunboat diplomacy).

In the nineteen month of the U.S.-instigated strategy of tension against China and Asia only the Filipinos have been suffering the loss of goodwill and actual trade and investment benefits from China. Meanwhile, the U.S. continues to leverage with China as demonstrated by the never-ending beeline of U.S. officials to Beijing for talks

Why does BBM allow such shame and national economic privation to be suffered by the Filipino? It’s time he takes the advice of our “mosquito think tank” for the government to heed, “Restore Sovereignty, Save the Philippines.” Let us learn the lesson of Ukraine that will soon no longer exist as a viable country. Let us avoid becoming the U.S.-made Ukraine 2.0. ###
